This report covers support activities to existing user communities, and belongs to EGI-InSPIRE SA1 (Task SA1.7 - Support Teams). The outreach to new communities activities that NGIs perform under NA2 are gathered through the Virtual Teams. However, there may be outreach activities that do outside of VTs. You can report about these in your 2.2.3 paragraph as well. | This report covers support activities to existing user communities, and belongs to EGI-InSPIRE SA1 (Task SA1.7 - Support Teams). 2. ACTIVITY REPORT
2.1. User Support achievements
Life Science Grid clusters hardware upgrade. Tutorials were presented about the use of grid. BBMRI.nl project intensifies use of Grid Storage for data sharing and distribution over sites of different analysis participants.
The workflow system Galaxy is available for Dutch researchers on the HPC cloud. The application scales dynamically with increasing workload.
SARA released a new webinterface for the easy instantitation of preconfigured Virtual Machines. This was shown at the EGI tech forum 2012, Prague.
Hadoop cluster has increased its user base considerably. R and Pig were made available on Hadoop. Also the CommonCrawl dataset is being hosted at SARA's Hadoop cluster and available for users.
2.2. Plans
We plan to upgrade Hadoop and the HPC Cloud hardware in the near future (Q1 2013).
There will be a code challenge for Hadoop users of the Common Crawl data set.
2.3. Issues and mitigation
The HPC cloud is very popular and we are quickly running out of resources. With the Hadoop cluster we see similar usage patterns.
