Installed with latest SL 6.3. CSCS installed new 2 KVM virtualization hosts to replace aging Sun hardware. CSCS Configured CMS xrootd redirector

UNIBE BDII-site from glite-BDII_site-3.2.11-1.sl5 (glite 3.2) to emi-bdii-site-1.0.0-1.sl5 (EMI-2) UNIBE DPM head from glite glite-SE_dpm_mysql.x86_64 1:1.8.0-1.sl5 (glite 3.2) to emi-dpm_mysql.x86_64 0:1.8.4-1.el5 (EMI-2) UNIBE ARC CE from nordugrid-arc-compute-element.noarch 1.0.1-1.el5 (nordugrid 1.1.0) to 2.0.1-1.el5 (EMI-2)

UNIGE Upgrade of the site BDII to the EMI2 release in December. New site BDII installed in a virtual machine. UNIGE Addition of 8 new worker nodes, each with 32 CPU cores and 96 GB of RAM, to the system. Old machines representing 48 cores were retired the same time. UNIGE Upgrade of the DPM SE head node to the EMI 2 release in January. New head node installed in a virtual machine. The mysql database of the SE is on a separate physical machine.

PSI migration of dcache namespace from PNFS to Chimera in December, also postgres DB upgrade to 8.4. PSI dcache main services migrated to SL6 OS (for Linux hosts) and deployed on virtual machines. PSI dCache upgrade to 1.9.12 in January, including postgres upgrade to 9.2. PSI recycling of a number of old HW as UIs.

2.3. Issues and mitigation

Issue Description Mitigation Description
Issue description Issue mitigation

CSCS Internal network Found some network problems on the Infiniband fabric. At times the

Subnet Manager would incorrectly failover to a SM on a switch. We fixed it by forcing two hosts to hold our SM with higher priority than the switches.

UNIBE ARC Versioning Ambiguity in versioning and production requirements between Nordugrid, UMD and EMI has caused unsolved problems in the deployment of a new cluster fronted by an ARC CE
UNIGE WN One of the new worker nodes is not stable under SLC5.

Mitigation: Bios upgrade and reinstallation. We don't know yet if it helped.

UNIGE DPM/BDII Previous site BDII, which was also the resource BDII for

the DPM SE, had to be reconfigured to be only the resource BDII and stop being the site BDII. Mitigation: The software had to be hacked. Expert help was needed.

UNIGE DPM The DPM software is no longer supported for the Solaris OS.

We still have six Solaris disk servers in our SE, representing 1/3 of the space. Mitigation: Don't upgrade the software on the disk servers. Replace the disk servers at the next hardware upgrade, hopefully in Autumn 2013.

PSI dCache dcache 1.9.12 will not be supported any longer after April

2013, so a next upgrade is being scheduled for Febuary or March
