** Please provide feedback in the tickets above.

** Main changes: Backwards compatible, no soname changes.
There are a few reasons for these updates, none of which should cause any disruptions.
** Other information: The Grid Packaging Tools (GPT) will be dropped in favour of standard autotools. If you are relying on GPT tools or GPT metadata files, now is the time to migrate. The pkg-config support has been the preferred way to find Globus Toolkit dependencies a long time. The globus-makefile-header command will be replaced with a wrapper around pkg-config calls to provide some backward compatibility, but its use is not recommended. No GPT metadata files will be installed with the new release.

** Fixes for reported issues: The updates above have been edited to include fixes for the following issues:
=== New packages ===
***GGUS 106665 - Bad logging of IPv6 addresses in the gridftp server logs. Reported by STORM. Tested by STORM and DPM. https://github.com/globus/globus-toolkit/pull/8. Updated package: globus-gridftp-server-7.11-2

*** Memory leaks in ftp client control library. Reported and tested by FTS. https://github.com/globus/globus-toolkit/pull/9. Updated package: globus-ftp-control-5.11-2
With the GT6 release there were a few new packages that were additions to the globus toolkit and not merely updates of packages that existed in GT5. Most of these were submitted for review for inclusion in Fedora and EPEL and the reviews have now completed:
* jGlobus 2.1.0 was released 26 September.

** Updates in Fedora 19+, EPEL 6+ testing and Debian unstable/Debian testing:
* globus-gridmap-eppn-callout (1.7)

* globus-xio-gridftp-multicast (1.5)

=== Updated packages ===

Since the last EPEL update the Globus upstream has released minor updates of some of the existing packages. These are also part of this update:

* globus-ftp-control (6.6)
* globus-gram-client (13.12)
* globus-gram-job-manager-sge (2.5)
* globus-gridftp-server (7.20)
* globus-io (11.3)
* globus-scheduler-event-generator (5.10)
* globus-xio (5.4)
* globus-xio-gridftp-driver (2.10)
* myproxy (6.1.12)

Most of these updates are fixes to the tests run during "make check" and therefore do not affect the functionality of the installed libraries and programs. There are a two exceptions where these updates have proper bug fixes:

* globus-ftp-control: fix for undefined return value from globus_ftp_control_server_listen (this bug was introduced in the previous release built for EPEL - 6.3).
* globus-gram-job-manager-sge: fix for different timestamp format in Univa's gridengine.

=== Fedora Packaging guideline updates ===

The reason for having all the Globus packages in the update and not just the ones listed above is due to adapting the specfiles to recent changes to the Fedora packaging guidelines. For the packages not listed above, this is simply a rebuild of the same sources that were in the previous version with a specfile updated to adopt the new packaging guidelines. The most visible change is the location where the license files are installed (but this change applies only to Fedora and EPEL 7, not EPEL 5 and 6).

RPM: http://unicore-dev.zam.kfa-juelich.de/release-candidates/core/7.2.0-packages/rpm

RPM packages were tested on Centos 6, so SL6 will be fine. SL5 is NOT supported any more.

Globus

This information was sent to the URT mailing list 2015-02-04

I was asked to comment on the latest Globus updates in EPEL testing:

There are a few reasons for these updates, none of which should cause any disruptions.

New packages

With the GT6 release there were a few new packages that were additions to the globus toolkit and not merely updates of packages that existed in GT5. Most of these were submitted for review for inclusion in Fedora and EPEL and the reviews have now completed:

  • globus-xio-gridftp-multicast (1.5)
  • globus-xio-rate-driver (1.7)
  • globus-xio-udt-driver (1.16)
  • globus-net-manager (0.6)

Updated packages

Since the last EPEL update the Globus upstream has released minor updates of some of the existing packages. These are also part of this update:

  • globus-ftp-control (6.6)
  • globus-gram-client (13.12)
  • globus-gram-job-manager-sge (2.5)
  • globus-gridftp-server (7.20)
  • globus-io (11.3)
  • globus-scheduler-event-generator (5.10)
  • globus-xio (5.4)
  • globus-xio-gridftp-driver (2.10)
  • myproxy (6.1.12)

Most of these updates are fixes to the tests run during "make check" and therefore do not affect the functionality of the installed libraries and programs. There are a two exceptions where these updates have proper bug fixes:

  • globus-ftp-control: fix for undefined return value from globus_ftp_control_server_listen (this bug was introduced in the previous release built for EPEL - 6.3).
  • globus-gram-job-manager-sge: fix for different timestamp format in Univa's gridengine.
