"Since this image is persistent, it will be automatically overwritten in the image repository once I shut down the virtual machine."

bjoernh (2013-04-22) - Does this imply that I can only ever run a single instance from persistent images? Otherwise, I'm wondering what happens with changes to multiple instances and how they would be stored. This setup seems to be rather specific to me. OpenStack solves this by offering snapshots of running instances, which will then become new images to start new instances from (as usual, multiple instances per image).

xparak (2013-04-22) - Yes, it does. OpenNebula won't allow you to launch multiple instances from a persistent image. On the other hand, you can launch multiple instances from a non-persistent image and save each one as a different "snapshot" creating a new image (real snapshot support is coming in OpenNebula 4.0, right now it's just a combination of two actions -- Save as and Shutdown).
