ARC 15.03 update 16

Description

The Advanced Resource Connector (ARC) middleware is an Open Source software solution to enable distributed computing infrastructures with the emphasis on processing large volumes of data. ARC provides an abstraction layer over computational resources, complete with input and output data movement functionalities. The security model of ARC is identical to that of Grid solutions, relying on delegation of user credentials and the concept of Virtual Organisations. ARC also provides client tools, as well as API in C++, Python and Java.

Release notes

This is a minor release, introducing new features and addressing bugs discovered since release 15.03u15.

NorduGrid ARC 15.03 has received an update to:

  • core, clients, CE, Infosys and gridftp - from version 5.3.2 to 5.4.0
  • documents - from 2.0.16 to 2.0.17

Nagios plugins, Gangliarc and metapackages are unchanged.

Note: In the process of fixing bug 3666 for ARC 5.3.2 a backward incompatibility was introduced in the EMI-ES interface. This backward incompatibility is still present in 5.4.0. If you run ARC < 5.3.2 you are asked to not turn on the EMI-ES interface, hence avoiding any problems. Sites running ARC >= 5.3.2 should not suffer from the issue.

It was developed to assist High Energy Physics (HEP) collaborations to deploy software on the worldwide-distributed computing infrastructure used to run data processing applications. CernVM-FS is implemented as a POSIX read-only file system in user space (a FUSE module). Files and directories are hosted on standard web servers and mounted in the universal namespace /cvmfs. More info here.

Release notes

CernVM-FS 2.4 is a feature release that comes with performance improvements, new functionality, and bugfixes. Please find detailed release notes in the technical documentation.

XRootD 4.7.0

Description

XRootD software framework is a fully generic suite for fast, low latency and scalable data access, which can serve natively any kind of data, organized as a hierarchical filesystem-like namespace, based on the concept of directory. As a general rule, particular emphasis has been put in the quality of the core software parts.

Release notes

Detailled release notes at http://xrootd.org/2017/08/28/announcement_4_7_0.html

IMPORTANT: the latest version of Xrootd ( 4.7.0) has "broken" the xrdcp command towards dcache:

https://github.com/xrootd/xrootd/issues/593

The issue seems to be server side ( a missing field in the response which is now enforced by the client) and a fix will be provided in the upcoming Xrootd 4.7.1.
