This page provides information about the "Virtual Team Project framework" and the Virtual Team projects that exist in the context of the NA2 activity of the EGI-InSPIRE project. (Virtual Team - VT)

Context

In 2011 the EGI-InSPIRE project revised the user engagement activities of the project and defined a new structure for the NA2 work package in an updated Description of Work. The purpose of the restructuring is a framework called "Virtual Teams" (VT) that can significantly improve the efficiency and flexibility of the interaction between the NGIs, EGI.eu and other organisations to achieve common goals in the field of "Engaging with New Communities".

Virtual Teams enable NGI and EGI.eu persons to collaborate on the following non-operational activities:

  • Marketing & Communication
  • Strategic Planning and Policy Support
  • Community outreach and events for new users
  • Technical outreach and support to new communities

Virtual Teams can be established and used to enable the development of a strategy for the long-term evolution of EGI, or to significantly increase both the diversity and quantity of users and communities exploiting the infrastructure for world class research. The application of the framework is limited only by the scope and imagination of the NGIs to commit resources to any particular goal. The framework was developed within the EGI-InSPIRE project, but it welcomes NGIs, countries and regions outside of the project to use it either by joining existing Virtual Teams or suggesting, establishing new Virtual Teams.

What is a Virtual Team?

November 2011 the EGI-InSPIRE project works few months we will be establishing a network of ‘NGI International Coordinators’ that will help build this vital aspect of our community. The initial phase of this work will be in defining the strategies that will be adopted to engage new user communities both locally and at a European level. Growing the diversity and usage of our user community will help to demonstrate the importance of further investment nationally and within Europe.
