The Polish Grid Initiative

PL-Grid (Polish Infrastructure for Information Science Support in the European Research Space) is a scientific project, co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund as part of the Innovative Economy program. The project started in January 2009 and will last until December 2011.

Organisational Structure

The Project is realized by the PL-Grid consortium, which consists of five Polish supercomputing and networking centres:
- ACC CYFRONET AGH - Academic Computer Centre Cyfronet AGH, Krakow
- ICM UW - Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling, Warsaw University, Warsaw
- PSNC - Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center, Poznan
- CI TASK - Academic Computer Centre, Gdansk
- WCSS - Wroclaw Centre for Networking and Supercomputing, Wroclaw.

Mission

The main purpose of the PL-Grid project is to provide the Polish scientific community with an IT platform based on Grid computer clusters, enabling e-science research in various fields. This infrastructure will be both compatible and interoperable with existing Grid frameworks in Europe and worldwide.

Offer

To individual scientists and research teams from various areas of science, interested in exploiting our infrastructure for large-scale computation and simulations, we provide:

  • access to high-performance computing clusters (target: 215 Tflops) and large-scale storage arrays (target: 2500 TB),
  • scientific software packages – which will enable performing scientific computations in the field of biology, quantum chemistry, physics, numerical computations and simulation,
  • tools and services, e.g. for organization of computational experiments and visualization,
  • assistance in adapting applications for execution on the Grid,
  • training, helpdesk.
