In the table below, you should provide your self-assessment for the EGI-InSPIRE "NGI International Tasks" for milestone MS124 "NGI International Tasks Review"

For more information on how to complete the tables, read the dedicated Instructions Page

Notes:

  • This milestone is an assessment of services from a managerial perspective and should be reported as an evaluation of the services (e.g. objectives being met; resources to effort; issues; suggested strategic changes).
  • 'DO NOT' report what your NGI did for those tasks/services as this is covered by the Quarterly Reports.
  • In order to edit this page, you need to log in with your EGI SSO account and click 'edit' on the tab (top of this page).

Community Engagement

EGI-InSPIRE Task Task Name Assessment Score How to Improve After EGI-InSPIRE**
*NA2U.2E Marketing
UK hosting EGI CF 2013, lots of national engagement involved. The website has been updated. News is sparse in many areas. 3 (regular activities), 4(including EGI CF) More commercial partnering. Increased engagement with higher profile projects Will continue nationally post InSPPIRE
NA2.1N NGI International Liaison
The UK is very active in NIL work and has participated in 14 of 21 Virtual Teams to date including 8 of the 9 active VTs. The UK has been successful in encouraging non-EGI participation in VTs (10 experts involved in 7 VTs), broadening the reach of EGI into new communities. Nationally there is steady engagement with new communities - including joint funding proposals/applications. 5 continue engagement with new communities, consider outreach event subject to funding availability Will be driven by national priorities and funding opportunities
NA2.6N Distributed Competency Centre
Active sharing of knowledge with new VOs and communities. Good involvement at regional levels 3 Improve knowledge/visibility of the UK NGI offerings. Undertake some exemplar projects (nb. this is in the GridPP KE and Impact plan) Management not dependent on EGI-InSPIRE.

*Please provide your external assessment on the quality of the service, which is delivered as a Global Task (scores and feedback will be included as part of MS123 - Global Task Review).
**Please comment on the continuation or service impact at the end of EC funding regarding the EGI-InSPIRE task/service.

Operations

EGI-InSPIRE Task Task Name Assessment Score How to Improve After EGI-InSPIRE**
SA1.1N NGI Activity Management Internal management has been solid with regular (weekly and monthly) NGI and sub-project meetings; OMB participation good 4 Ensure coverage when management away.
SA1.2N A Secure Infrastructure Active in all areas of security both nationally and international (OSVG and OSCT). Established UK security team who meet bi-weekly. Regular security reviews and training. 4 More training and awareness building beyond the core security team. Nationally effort will remain good until at least 2015.
SA1.3N Service Deployment UK participated significantly in Staged Rollout. This works but majority of sites use EMI not UMD due to slowness of latter in updating. Bugs are found in SR that are not addressed and these impact our smaller VOs. EMI-2 rollout has gone well with minimal disruption. NGI developed a VOMS configuration tool to improve reliability of new VO enablement. 3 Faster rollout. This activity will need a body to coordinate it in the longer term.
SA1.4N Infrastructure for Grid Management NGI has been active in feeding back issues and quickly implementing new versions. Nagios probes and Paikiti actively used and stable. Management for smaller VOs has been slow to arrive. Still some problems with information reporting. Needed tools coming from WLCG (such as network monitoring) 3 More timely updates. Consolidation. Deployment will be fine but development might be an issue.
SA1.5N Accounting Accounting service runs reliably. Occasional issues with data uploads requiring retries. Some discrepancies with VO accounting. UK ensured all sites continued to publish UserDNs. 4 More cross-checking with VO accounting DBs to resolve discrepancies Checking accounting will be part of normal work.
SA1.6N Helpdesk Infrastructure Helpdesk (GGUS and local Footprints) works well. Weekly ticket reviews prevent stagnation. Assignments efficient. 4 More informative assignments and separation of immediate operations problems and long-term requests. Impact if GGUS funding reduced.
SA1.7N Support Teams National support teams effective. Issues mainly in non-action elsewhere. 3 So far little inclusion of the network aspects of support No impact
SA1.8N Providing a Reliable Grid Infrastructure Effective oversight in place. Regular internal quarterly reporting and channels for escalation including monthly performance reviews. SLAs are a backstop but not relevant in practice. 4 Use better middleware. No issues.
