Main page with instructions. In this page, you can provide your assessments for the EGI Global Tasks (MS115) and your self-assessment for the NGI International Tasks (MS116).

Notes:

  • Both milestones are an assessment of services from a managerial perspective'and should be reported as an evaluation of the services -do 'not report what your NGI did for those tasks/services as this is covered by the Quarterly Reports.
  • MS115: External assessments of NA2.2 EGI Dissemination and Marketing as a global task.
  • MS116: Self-assessment of NGI International Tasks, required for tasks where your NGI has effort. (The operations part is covered through a survey linked at the bottom of this page).

The content will be used for the following documents:

Global Tasks (MS115)

In this box, please provide your external assessment on the quality of the following tasks:

NA2.2E Dissemination (May 2011 - Oct 2011)
Marketing and Communication (since Nov 2011)
There has been considerable dissemination effort by EGI but not always targeted to the end user (scientist) that is our potential customer. It seems that we are stuck always within the same communities that already know about grid. Many news are not so appealing to be published in newspapers. 4 Try to target end users directly announcing the service for instance in publications and sites that are targeted to the scientists, engage with ESFRI, extend dissemination to governmental and international agencies.

NGI International Tasks (MS116)

In this box, please provide your self-assessment on the quality of the following tasks.

External Relations

NA2.2N Dissemination We performed dissemination near our contacts in the Universities and research centres. Our intervention at this level has been limited by the agreed technical scope of our responsabilities in the NGI. 3 try to reach the end users directly
NA2.3N Policy Development We participation in EGI bodies such as the council, PMB, OMB etc in addition we have been active in the EUgridPMA and IGTF bodies. 4 more contacts at the ESFRI level and with government authorities

NA3.3N Requirements Gathering The collection of requirements has an increased activity peak near the Tecnological Providers deadlines so that they can start their development cycles. The time frames and the procedures for setting requirements were clearly explained and broadcasted through the available regional channels. Nevertheless, the NGI may not be aware of all the requirements set by their community members since in the way it is currently implemented, everyone with a valid sso account can set a requirement. In this sense it is a process that it is hard to control and duplication of requirements can easily occur. After a requirement is set, it is difficult to follow it up and check the final outcome of it. 3 Ask community members to inform the NGI management in CC about all the requirements they set. Provide dashboard (maybe via RT) for the different NGIs so that they can easily check a summary of the tickets under their scope.
NA3.3N Application Database The information about how to profit from the AppDB was broadcasted among the users, and during the past year, a total of 4 new applications were added. It is not clear, from our perspective, the real impact of adding an application, and some real benifits of using the Appdb should be shown so that the community could be more stimulated to participate. 3 Try to stimulate further registration of community applications in the AppDB. Both global and NGI tasks should put some focus on the advantages of using the services so that it becomes more appealing to the different communties.
NA3.3N Training Marketplace At this level, we can only assess the usability of the tool. The tool is not easy to use. For example, users complain they can not easily find events held in their region. 3 Try to estimulate further registration of events in the Training Marketplace. The search functionality should be enhanced to guarantee better usability and easy access to data.
NA3.3N Consultancy Some of the activities at this level seem to overlap with the user community support tasks recently migrated to TSA1.7. User support, in our mind, is part of continuous consultancy, and therefore, we think the project restructuring at this level brought more confusion than it cleared things out. Regarding our work at this level, we have provided consultancy for Portuguese Researcher who approach us searching for resources. We have developed frameworks or so that they can take better profit from the infrastructure. So the rating is address to the quality of work than we did rather than to the confusion that the project restructuring generated. 4 The consultancy and support is currently focused on national researchers with needs of computing resources. A new step could be to approach Portuguese institutions participating in ESFRIs. This seems to be the way EGI is going, and some coordination with EGI central bodies could be necessary.
