Main page with instructions. In this page, you can provide your assessments for the EGI Global Tasks (MS115) and your self-assessment for the NGI International Tasks (MS116).

Notes:

  • Both milestones are an assessment of services from a managerial perspective'and should be reported as an evaluation of the services -do 'not report what your NGI did for those tasks/services as this is covered by the Quarterly Reports.
  • MS115: External assessments of NA2.2 EGI Dissemination and Marketing as a global task.
  • MS116: Self-assessment of NGI International Tasks, required for tasks where your NGI has effort. (The operations part is covered through a survey linked at the bottom of this page).

The content will be used for the following documents:

Global Tasks (MS115)

In this box, please provide your external assessment on the quality of the following tasks:

NA2.2E Dissemination (May 2011 - Oct 2011)
Marketing and Communication (since Nov 2011)
The quality of EGI dissemination / marketing has improved since the previous period. However, it is perhaps not reaching far or wide enough, as it is rare to see EGI marketing reflected back from unexpected sources (e.g. appearing in general IT or science news sources) or resulting in interest to NGIs from new user communities. 3 Perhaps more marketing to general public, which would hopefully feed back to a wider set of scientific users. Look beyond the "traditional" outlets of ISGTW, etc. As an NGI, we could attempt to provide more stories, etc. to EGI.eu and also to better redistribute EGI.eu marketing material nationally.

NGI International Tasks (MS116)

In this box, please provide your self-assessment on the quality of the following tasks.

NA2.2N Dissemination NGI_IE dissemination effort is very limited and has had low impact. Current level of national funding is inadequate. While the activity can be sustained at current levels, this will make it difficult to increase impact. NGI_IE is considering sustainability plans. 2 Give greater prominence to outreach in strategy and plans. NGI_IE could try to better redistribute EGI.eu marketing material nationally.
NA2.3N Policy Development NGI_IE has contributed usefully to EGI policy activities. The output from the policy activities is of high quality but relatively low quantity, reflecting the level of effort available. Quality depends on the input of individuals involved and despite the consultation procedures in place it is not clear that all policies are given sufficient scrutiny. It can be difficult to find time to review policies in depth. The intention or purpose of some policies, while clear to the authors, may not be clear to the readers / reviewers. 3 Clearer scheduling and assignment of policy editing and review (and record effort against such tasks). Avoid clashes between editing/reviewing and quarterly reports, etc. Call for interest in policy writing (as for Virtual Teams) to get interested people involved early, rather than at the "final call" stage.

User Services

NA3.3N Requirements Gathering NGI_IE has made a limited contribution to requirements gathering. Users and operators may not be fully aware of the process for gathering requirements. 3 NGI_IE could better inform users, operators and support staff of requirements gathering system.
NA3.3N Application Database NGI_IE and its users have made use of the Applications Database to record their applications. As with any DB of this sort, it can be difficult to keep up to date. 3 Some (perhaps many) of the "applications" in the DB are very high-level references to projects (e.g. "helio" from NGI_IE, or "lofar" from NGI_NL). While useful to get a contact person for an application, this is a few steps away from providing a link to instructions, downloads, etc. for ported applications. Make use of the App DB for outreach to new communities within Ireland.
NA3.3N Training Marketplace NGI_IE has made limited use of the Training Marketplace. The NGI has not had a significant level of training events or materials to advertise in the past year. 3 NGI_IE expects to have revised online training material in the coming year and will advertise it through the Training Marketplace.
NA3.3N Consultancy NGI_IE has provided consultancy to new and previous user communities in the past year. This is clearly important to get users' applications onto the grid. An increase in effort for this activity would be desirable but funding is not currently available. A number of community-specific projects associated with the NGI operations centre will help for those specific communities. 3 Better prioritise and track consultancy effort, and make better use of success stories for marketing.
