2. Main Achievements

APEL team provided list of certificates used for testing the new APEL client. Certificates were authorized on production brokers to use protected SSL access to topics and queues.

GOCDB version 4.3 was released on April 18th. Major change in this version was introduction of service groups (previously known as virtual sites) and new roles. Detailed list of new features can be found in JRA1 section.

GOCDB failover instance was deployed at the Fraunhofer institute in Germany, however the failover instance is still running the old version of GOCDB.

Three new versions of Operations portal were deployed in this quarter: 2.9 on Feburary 16th, 2.9.2 on March 26th and 2.9.3 on April 25th. The major change in new versions were VO and Security Dashboards. Detailed list of new features can be found in JRA1 section. At the end of the quarter there were four NGI instances: NGI_BY, NGI_CZ, NGI_GRNET and NGI_IBERGRID.

Decommission of the old CIC portal (cic.egi.eu) was performed on April 25th. The old address is now redirected to the Operations portal (operations-portal.egi.eu).

Transition from topic to virtual destination in order to improve synchronization between SAM instances and Operations portal is in progress.

In this quarter there were no public SAM releases, only an internal one. Two new NGIs in process of creation deployed SAM/Nagios instances: NGI_MD and NGI_UA. At the end of the quarter following SAM/Nagios instances were in production:

  • 26 NGI instances covering 37 EGI partners
  • 2 ROC instances covering 2 EGI partners
  • 1 project instances covering 1 EGI partners
  • 3 external ROC instances covering the following regions: Canada, IGALC and LA.

Detailed list of SAM/Nagios instances can be found on the following page: SAM Instances.

Implementation of operational tools monitoring was postponed due to prolonged development of the next SAM release (Update-17).

Monitoring of availability and reliability of sites and raising alarms in case of issues will be implemented within Operations portal. The first version of probe was provided to Operations team at the end of April.

3. Issues and Mitigation

Issue Description Mitigation Description
High availability of central operational tools is needed. GOCDB: dynamic loadbalancing DNS setup is provided for the address goc.egi.eu. Secondary instance in Fraunhofer institute is deployed, but needs to be updated to the latest version.
Monitoring of underperforming sites. Monitoring of availability and reliability of sites and raising alarms in case of issues will be implemented within Operations portal. The first version of probe was provided to Operations team at the end of April. Full implementation is expected in the next quarter.

4. Plans for the next period

Track and perform planned tests of failover configurations of centralized tools.

Deployment of the new SAM instance dedicated for monitoring operational tools with the new probes provided by operational tools developers.
