Assessment of progress in 2013

Completed Activities and Milestones

  • MSG: Enhance monitoring tools for PROD MSG network
    • CERN team implemented detailed monitoring of queues used by known clients.
  • Operations portal: Refactoring dashboards
    • To increase the efficiency and the maintainability of the different dashboards (security dashboard, VO Dashboard, Operations Dashboard) the code was currently reviewed and improved.
  • Operations portal: Availabilities and reliabilities report system
  • Operations portal: Improvement of sam-MSG-ops portal synchronization
    • The different dashboards are not connect to SAM by using virtual queues and no more topics.
  • GOCDB version 5
    • GOCDB v5 was released on October 2nd 2013. The new version introduced more non-exclusive scope tags for hosting multiple projects in the same instance. The existing scope PI parameter will support a comma-separated list of scope values rather than exclusive EGI or Local scope values. In addition the new version uses the Doctrine ORM which enables support of RDBMSs other than Oracle.
  • SAM: Integration of EMI probes
    • SAM Update-22 released on October 28th 2013 contained EMI probes. This release requires full reinstallation of SAM instance because upgrade from gLite UI to EMI-2 is not supported. Several SAM tests were renamed which required special By the end of the year 16 SAM instances were upgraded to Update-22.
  • GOCDB: Automatic DNS switching to failover instance
    • First version of automatic switching was deployed in December 2013.

Milestones not accomplished

  • MSG: security implementation
    • Full security implementation was not achieved.
    • APEL SSM2 clients were developed in a way to use authentication. Broker network extension for authorization of APEL clients based on GOCDB data was developed.
    • SAM clients are still using unauthenticated connections.
    • Full security implementation has to be synchronized with the plans for future SAM developments in PY5
  • Operations portal
    • The complete refactoring of the portal is still on going . A 3.0 version will be deployed in the first quarter of the year . This version will integrate the different code refactorings done in 2013 and the integration of a new css layer provided trough "bootstrap" framework.

Plans for 2014

  • MSG: Migration of the ActiveMQ network to the new infrastructure
    • ActiveMQ network is currently run by CERN, GRNET and SRCE. After the EGI InSPIRE network will be part of core services activities and it will be run by the consortium consisting of GRNET and SRCE.
    • The existing production and test network will be gradually decommissioned by the end of April 2014.
    • The new production network will consist of two brokers at GRNET and SRCE that will become part of production by the end of January 2014.
  • SAM: Migration of the central SAM GridMon to CNRS
    • The central SAM GridMon is currently run by CERN. After the EGI InSPIRE SAM GridMon will be part of core services activities and it will be run by consortium consisting of CNRS, GRNET and SRCE.
    • CNRS will deploy a new SAM GridMon production instance by the end of January 2014. Two central instances will be run in parallel for three months.
    • The new support unit will be formed by the end of April for supporting all SAM operations. The 2nd level support unit SAM/Nagios EGI Support will be decommissioned.
    • The central SAM GridMon at CERN will be decommissioned at the beginning of May 2014. OMB has already agreed not to migrate the history. The new SAM GridMon instance at CNRS will have three months of history at that point.
  • SAM: Migration of the central Operational tools monitoring instance to SRCE
    • The central Operational tools monitoring instance ops-monitor.cern.ch is currently run by CERN. After the EGI InSPIRE ops-monitor together with middleware and security monitoring will be part of core services activities and it will be run by consortium consisting of GRNET and SRCE.
